Tin Whistle Lessons
Our tin whistle lessons are a great way to learn Irish traditional music, whether you are picking up an instrument for the first time or already have some musical experience. The tin whistle is simple to get started with, but there is plenty of scope to develop your playing as you progress. We offer lessons for children, teenagers and adults, with tuition adapted to each student’s level and musical interests.

Learn Irish Traditional Music
The tin whistle has an important place in Irish traditional music, and our lessons provide an opportunity to learn tunes in the style they are played in Irish sessions. Students can learn traditional jigs, reels, hornpipes, polkas and airs, as well as popular Irish melodies.
Learning by ear is an important part of traditional music, so students are encouraged to listen carefully and gradually develop the ability to pick up tunes without relying entirely on written music. Music reading can also be introduced and developed where appropriate.
Developing Your Tin Whistle Playing
Beginners start with the fundamentals, including finger placement, breath control, articulation and producing a clear tone. As students become more comfortable with the instrument, lessons can introduce traditional Irish ornamentation such as cuts, taps, rolls and slides.
Students also work on rhythm, phrasing and musical expression. Rather than simply learning a collection of tunes, the aim is to help students understand how to play them musically and develop their own style.
